Technology for vehicle automation is evolving rapidly. Robotaxis are hitting the road in various cities around the globe and OEM offerings for level 3 ALKS systems become reality. Nevertheless, these systems are highly complex and ensuring safety is challenging. Though the Netherlands has been a frontrunner in autonomous driving with the autonomous Parkshuttles in the Rotterdam Rivium area, coming to wider implementation and acceptance of autonomous driving in the Netherlands is still to come and we need to tackle related challenges.
Different perspectives
This workshop highlights the road towards autonomous driving in the Netherlands from different perspectives: The RDW will elaborate on the homologation perspective, taking into account that AI-based solutions are required to cope with challenging real-life traffic scenarios. Rijkswaterstaat will inform us from a road infrastructure and human factors perspective. VDL will highlight the OEM perspective for mixed-traffic and public domain applications and HAN will present the SafeCLAI project, aiming for a re-usable safety concept for low-speed autonomous vehicles.
