Test, validate, and scale your innovations in our Living Lab - 30 hectares of deep connectivity - where state-of-the-art facilities and real-world conditions ensure your solutions work seamlessly in practice.
Automotive Campus is not just a workplace, it’s a Living Lab: a mini society where the mobility and energy systems of tomorrow can already be experienced today.
In this secure, semi-public environment, autonomous vehicles, drones, and new energy solutions can be tested safely, even before they are allowed on public roads, in the air or in society at large.
Here, cars, cyclists, pedestrians and heavy-duty vehicles coexist in real-life conditions – supported by advanced energy infrastructures – providing invaluable data and insights that speed up development and market introduction.
This setting creates a unique bridge between research and real-world implementation: a place where tomorrow’s solutions come alive today.
At the moment, three innovative pilot projects are already being tested and demonstrated on the Automotive Campus:
LuxeneLuxene has developed an active road marking system that is fully integrated into the road surface. Using optical fibres powered by a laser and embedded in certified road-marking materials, the markings themselves continuously emit light.
Because there is no electronics embedded in the pavement, the system is robust, reliable and low-maintenance. Unlike conventional street lighting, the light is provided exactly where it is needed: directly within the road markings. This results in up to 70% lower energy consumption while ensuring visibility in all weather conditions.
LightcoreThe light source that powers Luxene’s optical fibres requires a stable and reliable energy supply, regardless of where the installation is located. That is exactly what Lightcore provides.
Lightcore delivers a complete off-grid energy solution powered entirely by solar energy, without requiring a connection to the electricity grid. There is no need for excavation work to install power cables, no dependence on an increasingly congested electricity network, and no compromise on reliability.
The Lightcore system operates 24 hours a day, year-round, including at night, during cloudy weather and throughout periods of limited sunlight. In collaboration with VDL Industrial Modules, all technology has been integrated into a robust and elegantly designed stainless-steel enclosure.
How it works:1. Charging
During the day, the Lightcore system charges through solar panels and stores energy in an integrated battery system.
2. Power Supply
The system delivers a stable power supply to Luxene’s external light source, enabling active road illumination during darkness or adverse weather conditions.
3. Illumination
The lane markings themselves emit light, making them clearly visible to both human drivers and the sensors of autonomous vehicles.
4. Fully Autonomous Operation
No grid connection is required, and there is no maintenance associated with underground cabling. The entire system can be monitored remotely.
Giving cyclists greater visibility, confidence and control after dark.
Projected road markings help cyclists navigate dark cycle paths and high-risk locations more safely and comfortably through intuitive visual guidance. The system minimizes light pollution while maintaining exceptionally low energy consumption.
