Yesterday, the Verstedelijkingstafel of the Provincie Noord-Brabant visited the Automotive Campus in Helmond. The visit focused on the opportunities for further development, expansion and scaling of the campus as a leading innovation hub.
The programme started with a presentation by Sascha Bloemhoff, Director of the Automotive Campus, who shared an ambitious vision for the campus towards 2040. In this vision, the campus will continue to evolve as an international hotspot for smart and sustainable mobility, with growth, collaboration and talent attraction at its core.
This was followed by presentations of Luuk Misdom, Senior Project Lead Smart Mobility, and Daniel de Klein, Business Development Manager Digital City at the Gemeente Helmond. They introduced a predictive digital twin – partly developed at Automotive Campus – that provides insight into the impact of housing development and infrastructure on multiple indicators.
The digital twin enables integrated analysis of effects on mobility, liveability (including air quality and noise), supporting better-informed decision-making. It also strengthens collaboration across policy domains, highlighting the importance of data and digitalisation in future urban development.
Following the presentations, participants joined a guided tour across the campus, experiencing its dynamic and innovative ecosystem firsthand. The visit concluded with a stop at InMotion, the student team of the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven based on the campus. Here, attendees were introduced to their groundbreaking ‘Electric Refueling’ technology: a new ultra-fast charging concept that eliminates long waiting times at charging stations—simply charge and go.
The visit provided the Verstedelijkingstafel with valuable insights into the role of the Automotive Campus in shaping the future of mobility, urbanisation and digital innovation in North Brabant.
