Taking up space in tech

Taking up space in tech

Last week, Automotive Campus hosted the Women in Tech event, initiated by students from Formula Student teams in Eindhoven, Delft and Twente. The idea came from Esmee Tettero and Tess Rademaker, who were both part of the board of University Racing Eindhoven last year. Noticing the growing number of women in leadership roles across the student teams, they connected with board members from the other teams to bring this group together and build on that momentum.

The event created space to share experiences of working and leading in a technical environment, and to connect students with professionals across the industry. Speakers including Françoise Chombard (Chairwoman of Melexis), Maijke Receveur (Automotive Campus) and Floor de Jong (Shell) shared their perspectives on careers in tech, leadership and personal development. During the panel discussion, Esmee Tettero (URE), Renee Roozen (Formula Student Team Delft) and Jacobine Tempelaar (HyDriven), moderated by Janneke Jellema (TALENTA Consult), reflected on their experiences in leading high-performance engineering teams.

Throughout the afternoon, conversations centred around visibility, representation and creating environments where more women feel encouraged to step into technology and leadership roles. The networking session brought together students and professionals, enabling meaningful exchanges and new connections.

At Automotive Campus, we are proud to host initiatives like this, where students take the lead and bring together communities across education, industry and research. Or as one of the participants put it: we’re here to take up space, together!
